History
1895 - The league was formed during the 1895 season, the first mention of the league in the papers was October 1896. When Pensher church cricket club, held their annual meeting, when they finished third in the 'Durham north east league tournament'.
1896 - On 22nd May Murton colliery played Ryhope colliery, Murton scored 74 and Ryhope 28.
1898 - The league was tied with Murton, Lumley Thicks and Hendon all finishing the season on 19 points. A series of playoff matches was decided upon by the committee. Hendon beat Murton to play Lumley in the final. The final match with Lumley Thicks was abandoned due to bad light. Lumley refused to replay the tie so Hendon awarded the title.
1899 - Hendon CC were champions for the third year running, they left the league for the Durham Senior league for the 1900 season.
1900 - (19th June) League table stood as follows:

East Rainton 2

1901 - The first incarnation of the NEDCL merges with the North Durham League and ceases to exist.
1908 - During this time the North Durham league merges with three other local leagues to form the Durham County league.
1910 - A number of clubs break away from the County league to form the Durham North Eastern League
1916 - East Rainton and Ryhope resign from the league due to lack of players due to the war. Hetton Lyons, South Hetton, Murton Colliery, Littletown, Horden and Silksworth vote to continue. All clubs will arrange their own fixtures.
1922 - League divided into East and West areas due to high number of clubs.
1956 - Belmont win league championship for a record eight consecutive seasons, a record held until 2003 (one title was shared).
1960 - Leagues low point, only 4 clubs in the league, Hazard Colliery, Thornley C.W., Ericson's (Sunderland) and Bristol Aero (Sunderland) after the resignation of ten clubs.
1960 - First women Mrs F Lowing becomes president of the league after the death of her Husband (And previous president) Mr Amos Lowing - A trophy is still played for in his honour.
2003 - East Rainton set new league record, winning division 1, Glenn Pattison Trophy, Henry Bainbridge and Vinton Trophies undefeated in the whole season.
2006 - East Rainton match Belmont's record with seven consecutive league titles.
2012 - Last League representative side plays against the Durham Coast League.
2013 - League returns to two division format.
2014 - League launches its first website.
2016 - League joins the North East Cricket pyramid, alongside the the Durham league and the North East Premier league. With promotion and relegation between all leagues.
