The current incarnation of the NEDCL was formed in 1913, however the roots of the league go back much further to the late 1880's. Making it the oldest league in County Durham. The league survived two world wars, survived only having 3 member clubs in 1960 and reached the heady heights of running four divisions. Whilst in 1921 the current impressive league trophy was purchased. It is fitting that the trophy returns to Seaham for its final year. In 1921 it went to Seaham Park and in 2019 it travels to the other end of Seaham with champions Seaham Harbour. Many clubs have come and gone down the years, including many clubs no longer with us at all. Belmont, East Rainton and Murton Colliery were the three founding clubs to be in the league in its final year. They stood alongside Beamish, Burnhope, Coundon, Kibblesworth, Seaham Harbour, South Hetton, Stanhope, Simonside, Tantobie and Wearmouth, in the final season of the league. Everyone in the league would like to thank Brian and Maurice who have been so dedicated in running our league and the pride with which they undertook this was shown in Brians emotional speech at the presentation evening. They will be welcome at any club ground for many years to come.
The new league the Durham & North East league will we hope continue our long history of supporting amateur cricket in our area and as Brian said, retain the family feel that the NEDCL is well known for. Alongside this we hope our clubs can continue to survive and thrive. Aswell as showing the high standard of cricket in our league is equal to any other. So once again thank you for reading this website, which will remain as a testament and archive to the long and success history of our little league.
