All of today’s matches fell foul of the rain, with all matches making a start before being abandoned. The highest score of the week as at Coundon, who amassed 246 for 8 against Beamish, with L Bell contributing 60, whilst G Craig took 3 for 29 in response. M Ellis was 25 not out when the game was abandoned, Beamish finishing on 55 for 0.
Kimblesworth came closest to achieving victory away at East Rainton. Kimblesworth batted first making 201 for 6 declared, with D Puncheon top scoring with 51 and I Kitching taking 2 for 25. After tea Rainton were 100 for 9 when stumps were pulled. D Steinberg top scoring with 19 not out as number 10. Whilst D Showler took 3 for 12.
Wearmouth batted first at home to Stanhope, making 195 for 5. C Nicholson top scoring on 54, Dalton taking 2 for 26 for the Hope. In reply Stanhope were 76 for 2 when the rain fell. S Muse was top scoring with 46 not out and A Davison had taken 2 for 23.
Burnhope also batted first at home, making 187 for 9, D Bowery added 71 runs, whilst A Boal took 4 for 31 for the opponents Seaham Harbour. Harbour were 9 for the loss of no wickets when stumps were drawn.
The final game was at Belmont, the home team batted first, reaching 161 for 6, with P Cosford reaching 46 not out, for South Hetton L Horton took 2 for 39 and A Nicholson 2 for 28. After tea South Hetton were 75 for 1, with L Langley making 45 before being run out.
Division 2
Two games were however completed in Division 2, whilst two other teams had lucky escapes. Kibblesworth were one of today’s winning sides, visitors Belmont batted first being bowled out for 86, T Davison was the top scorer with 19, whilst A Awan 4 for 15 and A Bush 4 for 23 were the pick of the bowlers. In reply Kibblesworth passed the total for the loss of 3 wickets. M Burton made 45, whilst J Roberts took 1 for 20 for Belmont.
The other completed game saw Kimblesworth beat Simonside, Simonside batted first making 98 for 9. With N Coxall adding 33 of the total, whilst L Puncheon took 5 for 18 in response. After tea Kimblesworth passed the total with 6 wickets in hand, M Fishwick was top scorer making 23 not out, whilst S Winter took 3 for 55.
The biggest lucky escape was for East Rainton at Tantobie, B Wilson did the damage taking 5 for 11 G Wilson and J Batey joint top scored with 9. In reply Tantobie were 11 for 2 when the rain fell.
The final game saw Beamish pushing hard for their first win of the year. Burnhope batted first making 98 all out, with R Bendelow making 28 and G Appleby taking 5 for 8 and A Simblett 4 for 38. In reply B Ward was unbeaten on 32 as the stumps were pulled with Beamish on 38 for 1.
Sunday Division 1
In total contrast only one game fell foul of the weather on Sunday with East Rainton vs South Hetton rained off with a waterlogged pitch.
The result of Seaham Harbour vs Stanhope is still awaited.
The league toppers Kimblesworth March on with another victory at the hands of title chasers Burnhope. Kimblesworth batted first making 253 for 8, with the top scorers being D Puncheon 92 and S Kumar 100 not out. Whilst S Tweedy took 3 for 55 and A Hughes 4 for 71 as Burnhope responded. After tea Burnhope were bowled out for 225, with S Tweedy adding the bulk of the total with 74, the damage was done by R Beeson 3 for 51 and B Smith 3 for 19.
Coundon posted another large total and this time it ended in victory. Batting first Coundon made 225 for 7, with V Ghanuvela adding 116 runs to his sides innings. Whilst J Ricketts took 4 for 42 for Belmont. Belmont were then bowled out for 184 runs. With D Bradley making 54, whilst A D Tait took 3 for 17 in reply.
The final game saw Wearmouth beat Beamish. Batting first Wearmouth made 216 for 9 with S Clinton 82 and A Davison 59 adding the bulk of the runs. S Nixon took 3 for 36 for Beamish. He also added 69 of their final total of 156.
